Include your most recent passport

This is a required part of the renewal process

You must mail your old passport book (and card, if applicable) in the envelope.

Don't worry

It will be returned to you separately (canceled) after processing. This typically takes 1-2 weeks after your new passport is issued.

What you'll receive back:

  • Your new passport (in 6-8 weeks for routine service)
  • Your old passport with the corners clipped (as proof of cancellation)

Where to submit your form

Mailing addresses differ depending on your state. Use an envelope large enough to fit all the documents without folding them.

Your envelope should contain:

  • Completed & signed DS-82 form
  • Check or money order for fees
  • New 2×2" photo (stapled)
  • Your current passport and passport card (if applicable)

Use a trackable delivery method. Do not use UPS, FedEx, or DHL because you're mailing a PO Box.

Make an appointment at a Passport Agency instead.

Processing Time

  • Routine: 4-6 weeks once the passport agency receives your application.
  • Expedited: 2-3 weeks (requires an additional $60 fee, paid with your processing fee by check or money order).

Processing time does not include mailing time to or from the passport agency (each leg can take up to 2 weeks with standard mail).

Tip

Use Priority Mail Express if you need faster delivery to the passport agency (this can reduce mailing time to less than 2 weeks).
